IN/OUTSIDER is a project inspired by my personal experience of the friction between in- and outsiders in a small, Dutch rural community. I based the collection on both womens- and menswear, looking at traditional costume. I combined original traditional costume-techniques in my designs using knitting techniques like ribbing, jacquard, smocking, lace and special trimmings.
The designs convey a feeling of partly being an insider, but also partly being an outsider – that means, constricted but at the same time very loose and unbound. The colour palette is based on the classic colours used in local costume and the provincial colours.
